While He is healing hurts, He is also challenging me to obedience. Through this study, I have learned that God is responsible for the consequences when I am obedient. I am responsible for the consequences when I am disobedient. So what is the motivation for the choices I make? Fear? Other peoples opinions? Maybe instant gratification completely disregarding the consequences is the driving force. Whatever the motivation, the decisions I make have a direct impact on the results.
So what happens when I follow my own path? God's word is pretty clear on this. Take Galatians 6:7 for example: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.This is a pretty basic principle. I would be so surprised if I planted corn and pumpkins came up. Why would I think this principle worked differently in other areas? It does not. Every action has results. If I plant to please God and be obedient to Him, I will reap joy, everlasting life, and an abundance of blessing.
My best course of action is to make my decisions based on the will and word of God. To have life abundantly, I must:
- believe that God is absolutely sovereign
- believe that I can trust God
- mix my trust in Him with my love for Him
- listen to Him
- have courage even in conflict
- be willing to live in full surrender
